It is not enough to know the software, though. A person needs to understand graphic design principles such as placement, alignment, balance, proximity, and repetition in order to create effective designs. If a page is put together correctly in a page layout program but not aesthetically pleasing, that is not good design. Similarly, if a page is nice to look at but the message is not communicated correctly, again, the design is not successful.
