nSight Contracts To Proofread Up To 2,500 Pages Per Month for Microsoft Press

Will Proofread All Books Produced In-House by Software Giant's Book Division

BURLINGTON, MA—February 12, 2002—nSight, Inc., a leading print and interactive communications firm, today announced a contract with Microsoft Press to proofread all books Microsoft Press produces internally.

Ultimately, nSight expects to proofread approximately 2,500 pages per month.

The new contract is the latest—and the largest in terms of page volume—that nSight has undertaken with Microsoft Press, a relationship that began in 1990. nSight has been editing and producing books that Microsoft Press creates for end users and development and IT professionals; several of the books won editorial excellence awards based on nSight's work. nSight edited more than 15,000 pages for Microsoft Press in 2001.

According to Lucinda Rowley, senior editorial manager for Microsoft Press, the choice of nSight was based on a variety of factors, most notably the company's editorial focus.

"nSight's people have excellent editorial skills," said Rowley. "Many companies that do outsourcing for book publishers have more of a production focus. It's harder to find vendors that have such a strong editorial focus, especially in the technical area. That's why we came to see nSight as the ideal match for this job—their editorial skills are as strong as their production skills."

Rowley also highlighted nSight's flexibility as a determining factor.

"It's the flexibility that we appreciate most about nSight," she said. "They're adaptable and give us whatever we need, in terms of both content and schedule. That flexibility is important, when you're talking about outsourcing one part of a book and working with a tightly integrated internal team."

Rowley also pointed to nSight's rapid turnaround capabilities, a critical element considering that book chapters sometimes must be turned around in as little as two hours.

"Microsoft prides itself on its reputation for quality, not just in the books it produces, but in all of its software products," said Nan Fritz, nSight president and founder. "The company's reputation could be damaged by errors in its books. That's why we take the work we do for Microsoft, and for all of our clients, so seriously. Our work is protecting the image of our clients."

nSight, which was founded in 1982 as Editorial Services of New England, edits close to 50,000 pages of information annually for companies such as Microsoft, Fidelity Investments, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The new Microsoft contract follows nSight's recent introduction of Edit Expresssm, a separate, dedicated entity within nSight that provides companies and organizations with a new tool that meets the growing need to produce clean, error-free documents faster than ever before.
