Copyediting Fundamentals
(One-day workshop)

Date(s): Aug 13 | Sep 20 | Oct 23 | Nov 6 | Nov 26 | Dec 17

Instructor(s): Elinor Celuzza | Kerin Forsyth

Description
This workshop focuses on the role and responsibilities of the copy editor within the editorial process. Beginning with expectations and definitions, we review proofreaders' marks and then move to the work of editing. For example, we start with the rules—spelling, grammar, and punctuation—that must be followed. Then we move into areas of style, consistency, and other editorial enhancements of a text such as maintaining parallel structure and avoiding wordiness. In a small-group environment, participants also learn by sharing experiences with others working in copyediting positions.
